Who can request a StrokeSafe Speaker?
For Tasmania, ACT and Western Australia
StrokeSafe Talks are available to groups of 10 or more – community groups, social groups, workplaces, events and conferences.
Request a StrokeSafe Talk – TAS, ACT or WA
For Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Northern Territory
In these states, Stroke Foundation prioritises StrokeSafe Talks for communities with higher stroke risk or reduced access to health information. This ensures we can reduce health inequities and support the communities who need it most.
We focus on providing talks to:
・Regional, rural or remote communities
・First Nations communities
・CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) groups
This allows us to direct limited resources to the communities who are most at risk.
Requests outside these priority groups may still be considered under special circumstances or via a fee-for-service option.

Who conducts the talk?
StrokeSafe Speakers are volunteers trained in public speaking and experienced in delivering life-saving messages about stroke.
Many Speakers have experienced a stroke themselves or are close to someone who has. While they present information about stroke, they also draw on their own personal experiences. Every talk is unique and memorable.
Talks take approximately 40 minutes and Speakers cover:
- What stroke is – What happens when someone is having a stroke and the different types of stroke.
- How to recognise the signs of stroke – Learn the vital F.A.S.T. signs of stroke.
- What to do during a stroke emergency – Knowing when to call triple zero (000).
- How to reduce your risk of stroke – Understand and reduce the risk of stroke.
Is there a Speaker in my area?
We have volunteer Speakers across Australia.
Once you complete a Request Form, a Community Engagement Coordinator will check if a Speaker is available for your preferred date(s). We will then confirm your booking or explore other ways to support you.
Are talks conducted in person or virtually?
Both, depending on your preference and availability of Speakers. For online talks, we use Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Do you offer talks in languages other than English?
Yes, we have trained bi-lingual speakers available to present in Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin), Greek, Italian, Korean, Hindi, and Vietnamese. For other languages, our StrokeSafe Speakers are experienced at working with interpreters.
Is there a cost?
StrokeSafe Talks are free thanks to generous supporters. If your group can donate to help keep this service free, we greatly appreciate it. If significant travel costs are involved, we may ask your group to cover these expenses.
What people say about StrokeSafe talks
“The talk was incredible, total captivating. To have her story shared first hand was both an inspiration and an eye-opener. It really got us all thinking and talking about the way we look after ourselves. And we've changed! We stopped buying super salty office snacks, substituting them with organic, healthier alternatives. Our exercise regimes have been seriously reinvigorated too. Thank you so much for organising this for us, it’s had a huge and very important impact on each and every one of us.”
"The presenter kept our group interested the whole time, and that’s not always easy. Great presentation.”
"This has been one of our best information nights this club has had for many years.”
"Very worthwhile presentation. The ladies present were very responsive. Only positive comments.”
