Medical Research is very near and dear to Dr Tonge’s heart. He witnessed the devastating impact of stroke on many families during his time working as a paediatrician in public hospitals. He then sadly lost his mother to a major stroke and admits to being a bit anxious about having a stroke himself.

Dr Tonge knows how debilitating stroke can be and this has inspired him to leave a gift in his Will to the Stroke Foundation. “The Stroke Foundation has made some enormous advances in the fight against stroke and no gift is too small,” he said.

Dr Tongue has thoughtfully left 10 percent his estate to the Stroke Foundation in the hope that he can continue to encourage and support improvements in stroke care and treatment, long into the future. Dr Tonge believes that we are at the cusp of making huge breakthroughs and his gift will be helping the Stroke Foundation to shape advances in stroke prevention, treatment and care.

Dr Tongue has also included modest gifts to a few of his other favourite charities and shared these plans with his family. Knowing that he will be supporting his family and the stroke community in the future gives Dr Tongue peace of mind. “I am aware of the delicate fabric of humanity and the importance of holding each other together.”
