Jo Pittwood interview

What does it mean to you to be named a finalist in the Stroke Awards?

To improve awareness for the rare, cerebral brain disease Moyamoya.

How has stroke impacted your life?

Made me more driven to help other people after feeling like I have been given a second chance at life.

Why is raising awareness about stroke important to you?

I created the Moyamoya Australia group on Facebook which is an online support group for patients and family. It’s a place where they can share their own stories and support each other so that their experience is not so solitary.

What inspired you in your recovery?

The desire to promote awareness of Moyamoya in the general community and Australia-wide, and to make sure that I could interact effectively with my husband and children.

What is one thing you would like people to know about stroke?

It doesn't discriminate, any age group can be affected not just the elderly. I would like all people to know the signs and symptoms of stroke.
