How long have you been a StrokeSafe Ambassador?

Since I started training in March last year.

Why did you decide to become a StrokeSafe Ambassador?

I saw an ad on television asking for volunteers to become one. I have had three ’mini strokes’ without any disability.

What do you hope to achieve in your community as a StrokeSafe Ambassador?

This is a fantastic opportunity to use my interest in meeting people and motivating them to take charge of their health while they can.

What has been the highlight of your StrokeSafe Ambassador journey thus far?

Speaking to a wide demographic of people with whom I may not meet in my circle of friends and acquaintances. Witnessing the “light bulb” moment when at least one person recognises what they can do to help someone they know.

Do you have any tips for other StrokeSafe Ambassadors?

Avoid second helpings of anything, especially the lemon meringue pies! Seriously: elicit from your audience THEIR knowledge and experience of stroke: directly or indirectly. Finally, if there is a representative from the medical profession in the audience – always refer to them for endorsement or additional comment at the Q&A session.
