National stroke services frameworks

The Stroke Foundation first developed the Acute Stroke Services Framework in 2008 and the Rehabilitation Stroke Services Framework in 2013 to guide service planning, monitoring and improvement of appropriate acute and rehabilitation stroke services to support the delivery of best practice care as outlined by the Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management 2010. The Acute Framework has subsequently been revised in 2011, 2015 and again in 2018/19.

These documents outline where stroke services should be developed, provides a basis for measuring adequacy of current structures and resources, guide decisions about resource requirements and provide an outline for monitoring of quality of acute stroke care.
