“I felt fine when I left the house. But then I started to feel strange and my hand didn’t work properly... I couldn’t drive the car in a straight line. I kept dropping my keys, wallet and phone.”

Since John’s stroke, Amanda and John have added a little girl, Olivia, to their family.

The day John was struck down by stroke he was running errands for a mate. He was only 34, so he didn’t think ‘This is a stroke’. Instead, he tried to carry on with his day.

He recalls, “I think back now, and my behaviour was really erratic. But I just tried to brush it off. I’m amazed I even made it home.”

Your donation today can help spread the F.A.S.T. message so every Australian family knows the signs of stroke.

John is incredibly lucky his wife Amanda recognised the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke. She knew something wasn’t right when John tried to make a cup of coffee and couldn’t lift his arms. Amanda says,

“I could see straight away that something was wrong. John tried to pick up his phone and it went flying out of his hand. He got up but he couldn’t walk properly – like he had a dead leg. He was weak on one side and his arm wasn’t working.”

Amanda drove John straight to hospital with their two young children, Brock and Maddie, in the back seat. The hospital was expecting them; and John was rushed straight in for a brain scan as soon as they arrived.

Your donation today can help spread the F.A.S.T. message so every Australian family knows the signs of stroke.

Thanks to Amanda’s F.A.S.T. action, John received the treatment he needed to survive and make a courageous recovery.

Since John’s stroke, Amanda and John have added a little girl, Olivia, to their family. As Amanda shares, “We are so grateful for every day we can spend together as a family – and for all the new memories we are making.”

Remember every stroke is an emergency! When every minute counts… The F.A.S.T. test is an easy way to recognise and remember the signs of stroke.
