About our Partnership

Ryman Healthcare has chosen Stroke Foundation as its charity partner for 2018-2019. Throughout the year residents at Ryman Healthcare Australian villages will be raising funds for Stroke Foundation. Every dollar raised by residents will be matched by Ryman Healthcare.

Funds raised will be used to support StrokeLine - Australia’s only dedicated free telephone counselling and referral service. Every day, StrokeLine supports more than 10 stroke survivors, their family and carers with information and advice on stroke prevention, treatment and recovery.

About Ryman Healthcare

Ryman Healthcare is a care company – the care of older people is at the heart of everything they do. Ryman Healthcare was founded in 1984 by Kevin Hickman and John Ryder.

Kevin had visited a rest-home and did not like what he saw. There were shared bathrooms and little in the way of privacy or dignity for residents. He couldn’t bear the thought of his mum living in one. He thought there had to be a better way of looking after people, and that residents at least deserved their own rooms and ensuites. The care offered should be "good enough for mum".

More than 30 years later, Ryman Healthcare has grown to become the largest retirement village operator in New Zealand and a significant operator in Victoria. The company offers a range of retirement living options, from independent living apartments and townhouses through to serviced apartments, as well as rest-home, hospital and dementia-level care.

Ryman villages include resort facilities such as indoor swimming pools, movie theatres, bowling greens and hair and beauty salons. The size of the villages and the facilities offered may have changed but Ryman’s core aim remains the same.

Care is at the heart of what they do. And it must be good enough for mum or dad.
