Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability amongst adults. There are approximately 50,000 new and recurrent strokes each year in Australia with one occurring every 10 minutes. Stroke affects people of all ages but predominantly occurs in the elderly.
The Stroke Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation that works with stroke survivors, carers, health professionals, government and the public to reduce the impact of stroke on the Australian community. About the program:
The state office team is part of a national team that aims to raise the profile of the Stroke Foundation to increase support for our activities across the community. A major component of this program is to develop and build partnerships with individuals and organisations state-wide to build participation in Stroke Foundation programs.
A key component is stroke prevention and awareness activities. StrokeSafe presentations are offered free of charge across Australia to increase community awareness of what stroke is, how to reduce stroke risk, how to recognise the signs of stroke (using the FAST test) and what services are provided by the Stroke Foundation. StrokeSafe presentations are conducted by professionally trained volunteer speakers. Key events during the year Include Australia’s Biggest Blood Pressure Check and National Stroke Week.
What the role involves:
Supporting the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will be the link between health professionals, community groups and our volunteer team to make StrokeSafe presentations and events happen:
- Respond to enquiries for StrokeSafe presentations
- Data entry of bookings relating to StrokeSafe presentations
- Liaise with volunteer speakers to confirm availability and bookings
- Liaise with health professionals, community groups, corporates and volunteers to facilitate engagement in key events including Australia’s Biggest Blood Pressure and National Stroke Week
- Assist in events planning and logistics
- Assist with co-ordinating Volunteer training and other volunteer events
- Assist with administration tasks as requested
Your background, skills and experience:
You will be a customer-focussed person who enjoys working in a team office environment.
Specifically, you will have:
- Highly developed administration, organisation and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to use Microsoft packages including Outlook (email), Word and Excel
- Helpful and courteous manner
- Ability to work in a team or independently
