Draft stroke guidelines open for consultation

August 01, 2019

(Thrombolysis, acute antiplatelet and PFO closure)

The Stroke Foundation Guidelines Working Group has prepared evidence-based recommendations for acute therapy (thrombolysis, i.e. use of clot-busting drugs, and antiplatelet medication for minor stroke and TIA) and prevention of a second stroke (closure of patent foramen ovale, or PFO).

These guidelines will be submitted to the Federal Government's NHMRC for approval under section 14A of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1991.

As part of the approval process, these draft guidelines are open for public consultation. This gives people the opportunity to comment on advice that may directly affect them.

You can read the draft guidelines online in the list of Living guidelines updates on InformMe.

Alternatively, you can download the following PDFs:

Chapter 3 Acute medical and surgical management (with draft changes to thrombolysis and antiplatelet topics) [PDF 1.1 MB]

Availability

The draft guidelines are available to the public from 31 July 2019, and all submissions must be received by 5 pm, 30 August 2019.
