Draft updated guidelines for stroke management (aphasia and pressure injury)
The Stroke Foundation Guidelines Steering Group has prepared draft guidelines for stroke management, with recommendations for rehabilitation (aphasia), and managing complications (pressure injury).
These guidelines will be submitted to the NHMRC for approval under section 14A of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.
As part of the approval process, the Stroke Foundation is seeking submissions on the draft guidelines from 8 November to 20 December 2021.
The draft guidelines are available to view electronically on the MAGICapp platform:
- Aphasia (Chapter 5 Rehabilitation) – new recommendations for speech and language therapy, including timing and intensity, and updated weak recommendation against brain stimulation.
- Pressure injury (Chapter 6 Managing complications) – reinstated topic with new practice point.

Availability
The draft guidelines were made available to the public on Monday 8 November 2021, and all submissions must be received by 5 pm, Monday 20 December 2021.
