How to include (or change) a Gift in your Will

Thank you for planning on updating your Will to include a gift to Stroke Foundation. Making a Will is one of the most important steps in ensuring that your estate is given to the people and causes you care about the most.

Leaving a gift in your Will does not need to be complicated or expensive. Download our Planner Brochure

Steps for planning your Will

Step 1: Decide that you want to include a gift in your Will to Stroke Foundation.

Step 2: Investigate which option of leaving a gift in your Will best suits you.

Download information booklets, My Legacy Story and My Personal Story, to plan out what you want your legacy to look like. Or contact Stroke Foundation Gifts in Wills team for a confidential conversation.

Step 3: Fill in the story toolkit you choose - My Legacy Story or My Personal Story.

This will give you peace of mind knowing that you have the resources to ensure your wishes are understood.

Step 4: Have a conversation with your loved ones.

It can feel awkward starting the conversation; we suggest a comfortable place and maybe a cuppa.

Step 5: Decide which is the best avenue for you to complete your Will that suits your lifestyle.

Find a lawyer in your state - ACT, NSW, NT QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, WA
Or write your Will online with Gathered Here or Willed

Step 6: Take a copy of the appropriate wording for your gift.

This takes the stress out trying to remember addresses and ABN’s.

Step 7: Decide on your gift.

Most supporters leave a small percentage after taking care of those nearest and dearest. This is your gift and your lasting impact. See Types of gifts you can leave

Step 8: Let Stroke Foundation know you have left a Gift in your Will.

This means our friendly Stroke Foundation Gifts in Wills team can support your Executor and be able to respect your wishes. It also means that you can share your stories on the impact of stroke. It's completely confidential.

Step 9: Receive your complimentary membership into the David Brownbill Bequest Society.

Membership into the David Brownbill Bequest Society is complimentary to all supporters who generously commit to fighting stroke through the inclusion of a gift to Stroke Foundation in their Will.

Step 10: Put your feet up knowing that you have taken care of your loved ones and the causes you care deeply about and you have created a brighter tomorrow, by updating your Will today.

Finishing your Will can protect what matters most.

Your peace of mind, your wishes, your legacy.

The reasons people don’t have a Will varies but often it’s because they think it’s expensive and time consuming. To encourage the community to take this important job off their to-do list, we have partnered with the top-rated Will writing platform, Gathered Here.

They offer free and legally binding Wills in less than 10 minutes, with unlimited updates for life. Established in 2016, Gathered Here is Australia’s largest end-of-life services website.

Providing services to help people prepare for and manage end-of-life situations including Wills, Probate and Funerals, Gathered Here is supported by an in-house legal team of highly experienced Wills and estate lawyers. Their purpose is to give people the knowledge and tools they need to navigate everything relating to death with dignity, confidence and certainty.

After you’ve provided for your loved ones, we would love you to consider leaving just a small percentage of your estate to Stroke Foundation. Whilst this is not a requirement, a bequest or a gift in your Will is a lasting and meaningful way that you can protect what matters most and create a future where stroke no longer takes those we love.
