“Why was this happening to me?”

As a healthy young mum, Chloe never expected to have a stroke, but on Grand Final day one year, that is exactly what happened.

“I’d just gotten in the shower when I felt dizzy and lightheaded. When I stepped out of the shower, my left leg gave way. I knew something was wrong.” Chloe remembers.

When Chloe arrived at the hospital, initial scans didn’t show anything, but a CT scan the next day diagnosed a stroke. Chloe was given treatment and began an intensive rehabilitation program.

Shockingly, while she was on day release from rehab and spending treasured time at home with her family, Chloe had another stroke – just one month on from her first stroke.

“The hardest part was not knowing why this was happening to me. I had been working as a Personal Trainer, I ate well. I had a great lifestyle… but now I’d had two strokes!”

There is still so much we don’t know about the brain, and we urgently need to understand why stroke strikes some people and why they can happen more than once.
