Where the funds go

As a supporter, you are saving lives by helping us to prevent, treat and beat stroke. 

And it’s the thousands of everyday Australians that are the driving force behind fighting stroke. 


You are helping to provide direct support services to stroke survivors and their families, training of stroke health professionals, advocacy to governments, research and innovations to reduce the impact of stroke in Australia.  Here’s just some of the activities you helped to make happen.

Prevent

  • 505,664 free health checks in partnership with SiSU Wellness for Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check.
  • Key stroke information has been translated into 8 languages.
  • 3,021 events were held during in National Stroke Week.
  • 16,107 Australians heard lifesaving F.A.S.T. and stroke prevention messages from our 165 trained volunteer StrokeSafe Speakers.
  • Federal Health Minister announced the development of the first national Heart and Stroke Action Plan.
  • 654 people walked, ran and rode 46,093km in Stride4stroke.
  • Launched the anti-smoking campaign on World No Tobacco Day, in partnership with Quit and Cancer Council Victoria.
     

Treat

  • Commenced the world's first 'living' Stroke Guidelines project which will give our frontline health professionals fast access to the latest in best-practice treatments.
  • Over 1,300 patients treated in the first year of Australia's first stroke ambulance.
  • 120 stroke rehabilitation centres nationally participated in the bi-annual stroke audit of with 9,420 patient admissions to help guide rehabilitation care improvements.
  • 9,986 stroke health professionals have joined InformMe - the one-stop-shop for stroke treatment support.
  • The stroke Clinical Guidelines were viewed 115,653 times in 2018.
  • 5,619 training modules in stroke were completed by health professionals on InformMe.

  • We hit an amazing milestone - the 100,000th stroke survivor received My Stroke Journey recovery guide. More than 27,000 copies are distributed each year by 250 hospitals and rehabilitation centres nationally and StrokeLine.
  • Research grants awarded totalling $1.5 million including two new Memorial Research Grants for young adult stroke.
  • StrokeLine provided support and advice to 5,972 stroke survivors, their carers and families.
  • 94,993 stroke survivors, their families, carers and supporting health professionals accessed 372,530 pages of information on Australia's largest stroke support group - EnableMe. It is now Australia’s largest stroke support community with 6,500 members.
  • Podcasts on a range of issues in life after stroke were played 11,700 times by interested listeners.
  • Volunteers gave 12,690 hours of service to help fight stroke.
  • In conjunction with stroke survivors we created a new goal setting tool on EnableMe to help and inspire stroke survivors to achieve their chosen goals.
  • EnableMe was showcased at the World Stroke Congress as the leading online support tool/community for stroke survivors and their carers.
  • Stroke Awards recognised outstanding health professionals, stroke survivors, carers, fundraisers and volunteers in stroke.
