Nominations open for Stroke Awards

Stroke Foundation is excited to announce nominations are now open for the 2021 Stroke Awards.
The Stroke Awards recognise the incredible individuals in our community who make the future brighter for people impacted by stroke, building on Stroke Foundation's work.
Stroke Foundation Executive Director Stroke Services Lisa Murphy said the Stroke Awards were open to survivors of stroke, carers, volunteers, fundraisers, health professionals and researchers.
“There are so many inspirational people in our community who are doing amazing things to enhance and demonstrate there is life after stroke,” Dr Murphy said.
“The Stroke Awards provide us with an opportunity to honour these individuals and their efforts.”
Dr Murphy said this year’s awards were an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the stroke community in the challenging environment resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Many in our community were isolated for months, which led some to new creative pursuits and others to explore different approaches to rehabilitation, advocacy and raising funds,” she said.
“These endeavours deserve to be recognised.”
A stroke strikes the brain and can change lives in an instant. It is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. There are more than 445,000 people with stroke living in our community.
Dr Murphy encouraged people to visit the Stroke Foundation website to nominate those helping to improve the state of stroke.

Improving Life after Stroke Award, proudly sponsored by Australian Physiotherapy Association - Awarded to those who voluntarily dedicate their time to improving the care and support of survivors of stroke in the community.
Creative Award, proudly sponsored by Marmalade Melbourne – Celebrating a survivor of stroke's contribution to creative industries including writing, photography, music and fine art.
Fundraiser of the Year Award, proudly sponsored by Precision Fundraising – Recognises a fundraiser who has gone above and beyond to help raise awareness and funds for stroke in Australia.
Courage Award, Recognises the courage and hope shown by survivors of stroke and their carers in facing stroke recovery.
Volunteer of the Year Award, proudly sponsored by NAB Community – Awarded to outstanding volunteers whose dedicated service has made a significant difference.
President’s Achievement Award – Recognises the exceptional individuals who have made a significant contribution.
Nominations close on Friday 12 February, 2021. The winners will be announced at Stroke Foundation’s Stroke Awards ceremony in Melbourne in May 2021.
