Queensland Mum wins national award for dedicated fundraising efforts
A Ravenshoe mum, who has tirelessly raised awareness and funds for stroke over many years, has today been announced as the Fundraiser of the Year at the 2022 Stroke Foundation Stroke Awards.
Nicola Baker took part in Stroke Foundation’s physical activity campaign Stride4Stroke for the eighth year in a row last year, creating a team which raised almost $5,000.
The Stroke Awards recognise the incredible individuals in our community who strive to make the future brighter for people impacted by stroke. This includes the stroke survivors, carers, volunteers, fundraisers, health professionals and researchers who are relentless in their mission to enhance recovery and make a real difference.
Stroke Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sharon McGowan congratulated Nicola on her incredible efforts. She also acknowledged Nicola’s inspiration – her son Jed who experienced two strokes at a very young age.
“Nicola is demonstrating a lifelong commitment to supporting her son and advocating for research which will help many more people affected by stroke,” Ms McGowan said.
“The indication of just how Nicola’s ongoing efforts have impacted others in the community shone through in the nominations for this award, as so many individuals wrote in to share their admiration and thanks for her work.”
The Fundraiser of the Year category recognises individuals who have gone above and beyond in fundraising for the Stroke Foundation. It is proudly sponsored by Precision Fundraising, who themselves are experts in the fundraising sector.
There are seven award categories in total: Stroke Warrior, Improving Life after Stroke, Creative, Courage, Fundraiser of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and President’s Achievement.
