Medicines after stroke (COMPASS)

Who it’s for: Survivors of stroke, health professionals
What it involves: Focus groups
Location: Online (Australia)

Summary

People in Australia often stop taking their medicines after a stroke. This increases the risk of another stroke. Digital technology, like text messages and websites, are a way to deliver personalised medicines information.

Researchers at Monash University are creating a digital platform to support people to take their medicines after stroke. The digital platform is called COMPASS.

Your input will make sure the content and features are helpful to people who use the digital platform.

This project is supported by a Stroke Foundation Seed Grant.

Eligibility

You’re invited to participate if you:

  • Have had a stroke
  • Are taking stroke prevention medications
  • Aged 18 years or more
  • Living in Australia
  • Have access to the Internet.

Health professionals who care for people with stroke may also participate.

Activity

  • Join up to 4 online focus groups over 3–4 months.
  • Each focus group will be about 1 hour long.
  • Focus groups will be held separately – one for people with lived experience of stroke, and one for health professionals.
  • The focus groups will help shape what the platform looks like and how it will be shared with people.
  • Trained facilitators will show you ideas for content and features of the digital platform. This might include text messages, videos, pictures and facts sheets. Guided questions will be included.
  • You can also join a final focus group 3–4 months later to test the digital platform and share your feedback.
  • You can participate in as many sessions as convenient (you do not have to attend them all).
