Summary
This La Trobe University study is about finding a better way to measure how well aphasia treatments work.
- Currently, research only looks at one thing – like language or quality of life.
- But people with aphasia often notice changes in many areas, not just one.
This study is creating a new method called Aphasia-DOOR.
- People with aphasia are helping to make this new method.
- It will measure things that are important to people with aphasia – like how well they can communicate and how good their life feels.
The research team want to:
- Learn which changes from therapy matter most to people with aphasia.
- Work with people with aphasia to make a better tool.
Eligibility
- Have post-stroke aphasia
- Have had aphasia for at least 6 months
- Have received treatment or therapy for aphasia in the past
- You have a device with internet access that allows you to join a videoconference call
- Live in Australia, and
- Are over eighteen (18) years old.
Activity
- Participants will complete preparation work including watching videos or reading aphasia-friendly material about the study.
- Attend an individual interview via Zoom –1 hour.
- Attend a small focus group via Zoom – 2 hours.
The research team will ask you:
- To share your experiences with aphasia therapy research
- What matters most to you in rehabilitation and aphasia therapy
- To rate parts of aphasia recovery that are most important to you.
