iTakeCharge study
Who it’s for: Survivors of stroke
What it involves: Test a method, surveys
Location: Online (anywhere) and in-person NSW
Summary
Researchers from the Hunter Medical Research Institute are looking for people who have had a stroke, to help test a prototype of a computer character (like a virtual assistant that is sometimes seen on websites).
The idea is that the computer character will be trained to deliver a program that can help people with their recovery, through talk sessions about what's important to them.
For now, they're looking for people to interact with the computer character and tell them what they like and don't like about it, and if you think it would be helpful to use during stroke recovery.
Eligibility
- Adults aged at least 18 years old
- Have had a stroke within the last five years
- Are living in the community (not in a residential care facility).
Activity
In the study, you will use a computer to:
- interact with the computer character, answering her questions by selecting the options that best suit yourself from a menu of responses
- the session will cover topics about what is important to you, what has changed since your stroke and what are your hopes for the future in terms of your stroke recovery
- provide some information about yourself in a short survey
- provide feedback about your experience of interacting with the computer character
- the whole session will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes, with as many breaks as you need.
- you can complete your session online, or in-person at the Hunter Medical Research Institute, New Lambton Heights, NSW 2305. Family members and carers are welcome to attend.
You are invited to participate online
