Sydney man wins national Stroke Award

A Picnic Point man has been recognised at the Stroke Foundation's 2021 national Stroke Awards for his tireless dedication to raising awareness of stroke and drawing from his own experience to improve delivery of care for future patients.
Brian A Beh has today been announced the winner of the Improving Life after Stroke Award in an online celebration.
The 73 year old retired management consultant, who has dedicated many hours to sharing his experience with stroke and rehabilitation with clinicians and students, said he was honoured to receive the award.
"I get a great deal of satisfaction from lecturing and sharing my insights and learnings with health professionals and other stakeholders in the stroke community," Brian said.
"Stroke impacts everyone differently and I hope my lived-experience will help fill knowledge gaps.
“It is part of my Giving Back strategy after my own stroke in April 2016, which changed my life. I am so grateful for the clinicians, family and friends who supported me."
Brian is known by his peers and clinicians as someone who has been able to overcome significant challenges as a result of his stroke though sheer hard work. He is committed to helping fellow survivors make the most of their recovery and live well.
Stroke Foundation New South Wales State Manager Rhian Paton-Kelly congratulated Brian on being named as the winner of the Improving Life after Stroke Award.
"Brian is an inspiration and his drive to ease the burden of stroke on other survivors and their families is to be admired," Ms Paton-Kelly said.
“I thank Brian and fellow Stroke Awards nominees and winners for their incredible dedication and contribution to the Stroke Foundation’s mission to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.”
The 2021 Stroke Foundation national Stroke Awards were supported by major sponsor Ipsen. The Improving Life after Stroke Award is proudly sponsored by Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Almost 70 people were nominated for the awards this year across six categories: Improving Life after Stroke, Creative, Courage, Fundraiser of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and President’s Achievement.
