Draft updated guidelines for stroke management (thrombolysis, acute blood pressure lowering, and ICH medical intervention)

The Stroke Foundation Guidelines Development Group has released draft guidelines for stroke management, with recommendations for acute medical and surgical management (thrombolysis, acute blood pressure lowering, and medical interventions for intracerebral haemorrhage management).
These guidelines will be submitted to the NHMRC for approval under section 14A of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.
As part of the approval process, the Stroke Foundation sought submissions on the draft guidelines from 17 December 2024 to 28 February 2025.
The draft guidelines are available to view electronically on the MAGICapp platform:

Thrombolysis (Chapter 3 Acute medical and surgical management) – Several new and updated recommendations for thrombolysis related to tenecteplase. New recommendation against thrombolysis in nondisabling ischaemic stroke. New consensus-based recommendation for dabigatran reversal prior to thrombolysis.

Acute blood pressure lowering (Chapter 3 Acute medical and surgical management) – New recommendation for acute blood pressure lowering for acute intracerebral haemorrhage, and modification of existing recommendation to focus only on ischaemic stroke.

Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) management: Medical interventions (Chapter 3 Acute medical and surgical management) – New weak recommendation for care bundle approach to intracerebral haemorrhage.

Availability
The draft guidelines were made available to the public on Tuesday 17 December 2024, and all submissions were to be received by 5 pm, Friday 28 February 2025.
